Barry van Wyk Award

The award is presented annually to the author of the best final year dissertation on a geotechnical topic at a South African University.

  • 2011 Hendrik Steenkamp of the University of Pretoria received award for his final year project entitled “Embedment of Dynamically Loaded Foundations”
  • 2010 Charles MacRobert of the University of Cape Town received award for his final year project entitled "Correlations between DPSH and SPT and their Application in Southern Africa".
  • 2009 Robert Smith of the University of Cape Town received award for his final year project entitled “Tailings dams in South Africa”.
  • 2008 Jacobus Breyl of the University of Pretoria received award for his final year project entitled"Evaluation of the liquefaction potential of the Merriespruit gold tailings dam using a critical state method based on in situ testing".
  • 2007 BONé MAKGEKGENENE of the University of Cape Town received award for his final year project entitled "Permeability testing of soil / bentonite mixes in the laboratory"
  • 2006 Solly Phalanndwa of the University of the Witwatersrand received award for his final year project entitled "Pile Testing Using Internal Hydraulic Jack Method "
