Date: JHB, 16 August 2016. Cape Town, 23 August 2016. Venue: JHB, SAICE Head Office. Cape Town, UCT. SAICE Geotechnical Division Evening Lecture 1: Back to Basic in Geotechnical Engineering – Ground Compaction Presenter: Alan Parrock
The lecture will include an overview of the Zero Air Voids line and relationship to soil properties for G1 to G10 material. Flocculated and dispersed structures depending on compaction moisture content will be illustrated with variations in the Duncan Chang hyperbolic parameters with moisture content. Field compaction using DC, RIC, Impact and vibrating rollers (including the polygon type) will be highlighted.
Design methods based on research by Oshima and Takada (1997) will be explored. QA/QC procedures using CSW, DPSH and plate load tests with long term monitoring will also be included. Local and overseas case studies will be discussed. The lecture will be approximately 1.5h long and will be CPD accredited (RSVP is required for CPD accreditation).
