On Tuesday, 11 June 2024, the SAICE Geotechnical Division hosted a special evening lecture showcasing the 2023 SAYGE (South African Young Geotechnical Engineers) Conference Award winners. This engaging event featured two standout presentations that highlighted the remarkable talent and innovation of young professionals in the geotechnical engineering field.
The Best Paper Award was presented by Mr. Ruan Murison, a PhD student from the University of Pretoria. His lecture captivated the audience with in-depth insights from his award-winning research, showcasing his contributions to advancing geotechnical knowledge.
The Best Presenter Award was delivered by Mr. Duan Swart, an Engineering Geologist at Peragage. Known for his exceptional presentation skills, Mr. Swart provided a compelling discussion of his research, demonstrating his expertise and passion for geotechnical engineering.
Held via a free MS Teams webinar, the session lasted 90 minutes, with 45-minute lectures followed by interactive Q&A sessions for each speaker. The event provided a platform for professional development, networking, and celebrating young talent within the geotechnical community.
